We are delighted that Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has just won the Oscar for her Documentry Short, “A Girl in the River’, about Saba Qaiser.
It is hoped that the Oscar win will galvanize debate about honor killings, putting pressure on governments to close the legal technicalities that allow the killings to continue unpunished.
Obaid-Chinoy has directed a number of films about Pakistan’s transgender and marginalised communities.
