Shibuya Ward, home to Japan’s largest Halloween celebrations, asked people not to come out for the holiday party as a preventative measure against COVID. So, the city ward teamed up with au by KDDI to recreate, block by block, a virtual twin. Over 400k revelers created avatars who walked the virtual streets of Shibuya doing more than the physical city could have offered, while the City and KDDI enjoyed over $20m in media exposure.
